"Monday for wealth, Tuesday for health, Wednesday the best day of all, Thursday for losses, Friday for crosses, Saturday no day at all.
In those days when the bride and bridegroom came from the Church on horseback the bride rode pillion with her husband. The bridegroom's dress consisted of black corduroy trousers which reached to his knees, long woollen stockings and buckled shoes. He wore a 'swallow-tailed' coat and a broad brimmed hat. The bride's dress consisted of a wide skirt worn with a loose blouse and a large hat. A shawl was worn on the shoulders and at marriages these were often the most costly of the bride's trosseau.
