    house as the Holy Souls are supposed to visit each house on this night. On New Year's day it is very common to tell young children who cry on this day that they will be crying all the year, and it is said likewise that if we have rain on Sweethen's day it will be wet for forty days.
    It was an old custom on May day for the people not to churn as on this day the fairies are supposed to take the butter and on May Eve the crops were sprinkled with holy water to protect them from the "good people".
