The ruins of the monastery of Latteragh, founded by Saint Oran are situated on the side of hill about two miles from our school in Gurtagarry.Adjacent to the monastery there is a blessed well called St. Oran's Well which is the scene of cures for many diseases. There is a legend which tells that it was in the field opposite the foot of the hill where it is now, but it was defiled by a woman who washed clothes in it, and then it miraculously removed to its present position. There was a tree which grew beside the well and that moved over too. The well is round in shape, and is surrounded by a number of stones which are reputed to have have miraculous powers.
