    The Devil's Bit mountain comprised part of what was formerly the Carden 'Estate'. These Cardens were tyrannical landlords especially that one who earned for himself the title of 'Woodcock Carden" who was so named because of his many escapes from being shot by his tenants. He took every precaution to save himself, from the wearing of a coat of mail, to the fitting out of his house with steel shutters which still are to be seen on the windows of what was his castle and house in Barnane.
