It used to be said when I was a boy that Templemore (the Great Church) took its name from the Priory Church which the Knights Templer, it was supposed erected there in the Middle ages. The present town is a place of rather recent growth and had its first expansion towards the end of the 18th century, when the Military Barracks was erected as a consequence of the Insurrection of Ninety Eight, on a site given for it by the first(continues on next page)- Collector
