  2. 2. Shrove is the usual time of the year that people get married. Saturday and the month of May are supposed to be unlucky times to get married. The pair getting married should wear something borrowed. Another custom is when they are leaving the church to throw an old boot or rice at them. Money is mostly given as a dowry. Sometimes stock is given. The bride is supposed to be at the church the first. It is in the bride's house the wedding feast
