- The Old Abbey
The abbey is situated in the old church-yard. It is said that the Purcells, who lived in the castle, are buried there. There a lot of tombs in it, and most of them belong to the Purcells. There is a date one of the tombs, dated 1644 with a lot of Latin letters inscribed on it. It is said that Cromwell drove the monks out of the abbey and burned it. There is supposed to be treasure hidden in the field next the castle under two stones. Some men went to dig it up one night, and a monk put out his head from a window and told them to get away, that the money was theirs. Nicholas Purcell's name is on one of the two. The abbey is in three parts. There is only one party roofed. The abbey is covered all over with ivy. It is a very old building.- Collector
