- Redcity is situated about two miles from Coleman. It is said to have been the site of a town in ancient times, but no trace of it now remains. Redcity cemetery is one of the oldest of its kind in Ireland dating from the 6th century. Its headstones are numerous and varied - some ancient some modern. Legend tells us that Moll Dunlea - one of the principle witnesses in the trial of Father Sheehy - was buried there. The night after the internment of her remains, the entire cemetery is supposed to have moved across the road, leaving her solitary grave on the one side. Whether this story is true or not we do not know, but the peculiarity about the place is that the grave yard is on the one side of the road, while the ruins of the church and this solitary grave are on the other.
A large black dog haunts the road at this spot at midnight.
The Rock of Redcity is supposed to be connected with the Abbey of Fethard by an Underground passage, and the large rock is said to have served as an Alter for hunted priests to say Mass on,(continues on next page)- Collector
