plough in the fire and the story goes that while the iron colltar was reddening the "pisheog" or woman who took the butter came running to the house screaming and crying. She returned the profits of the milk on condition that the colltar be taken out of the fire as it was supposed to have been burning her.
On may eve farmers used to drive their cows through a gap in which a fire smouldered as a preventative to pishogues.
