  1. It is supposed that there is a gold mine in one of the fields in Trenchmore, about a mile from Poulacapple. It is covered with stones. Some years ago a great number of people came looking for it with picks, axes and shovels to dig it up. But when they were half way through, they heard terrible noise of chains and a a bull roaring. This bull is supposed to be minding the gold. So the people had to go home with nothing but their axes and picks. Nobody ever ventured to dig for that gold since.

  2. A highway robber named Doyle robbed a Protestant minister in Killamory with two other gunmen. They escaped and made for Mrs. Mackey's of Tarnaree. This woman had three plates of porridge on the table ready for her workmen and while she was gone out to call the men to their breakfast the robbers
