    the door opening in the morning
    When the manager saw Jack stretched on the floor he closed the door sand sent a messenger for the police. When they arrived Jack was arrested and conveyed to prison
    On examining the premises the manager and the owner were astonished to find that two barrels of rum + two barrels of whiskey had been consumed and all the bread and cheese eaten. They could never understand how Jack entered as the door was locked and the windows shuttered.
    The day of Jack's trial came on.
    All London flocked to the courthouse to get a look at the man who had consumed so much liquor
    In the mayor's court he was tried.
    The case was proved and Jack was sentenced to death.
    A platform was erected and on this was placed a cart from the Shafts of which Jack was to be hanged. A ladder was procured and the ends fastened to the platform. Up this ladder climbed the sheriff the hangman, the clergyman and six police.
