The wool was prepared for "carding" by putting "wool oil" on it. This oil was got at the shop. The cards were also bought. The wool was carded into "rolls" about 10" long and 1 1/2" in diameter.The rolls were kept in a "sieve". When two spindles were full they were laid in the sieve and a third spindle put on with the "crios"crossed to give it a reversed motion. The threads from the two spindles were then twisted together to form one thread.
The "crios" was made of several woolen threads twisted together until they were nearly so thick as a lead -pencil.
Socks were made of this spun thread. They were generally undyed.
I also saw balls of thread spun as large as a football. These were sent to a weavers to make flannel. These weavers were a family named Lonergan who lived near Clogheen. The flannel was used in making "white(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
