- About 100 yrs ago, there lived a family of 7 brothers very far our in Knockmealdown Mts in a place called " Uisce(?) Soluis." They had a little arm of their own. It so happened that the Duke of Devonshire's sheep were grazing on the mountain and the robbers came and stole them and had them in their dens. The Duke was informed that his sheep were missing and he immediately sent out messengers in search of them and also notified the local police. After some time they got news that they were hidden in dens in the mountain, and when they came there, nothing was seen but the skins. The seven brothers were on the run. Eventually they were all captured except Maurice - the youngest. The others were imprisoned for a number of years. Maurice was still on the run and he became so tired that one morning he came to the Barrack and gave himself up to the police and he told them that he was hiding for the past fourteen months in the nearest house to the Barracks. He was sentenced to 5 yrs. imprisonment. Some of the brothers died in prison and some were released. When Maurice had his term done he too was released and when he came home himself and his brothers started(continues on next page)
