  1. (continued from previous page)
house got a pain in her side. Then all the people that were in the house were up trying to help her to bear the pain and doing anything they could her and worse it was getting. Then the man of the house told the servant girl that there was a poor woman and her child outside in the barn and to go out and ask her had she any cure for a pain in the side. Then the Blessed Virgin pulled out a fist of the [?] from under her side and where she was lying and told the girl to put that up to where the pain was. Then she said to the girl "A nice man and a wicked woman" Then the girl went in and put the [?] up to where the pain was and the pain stopped that minute and they all ran out to bring in the poor woman and her child in to the fire and when they went out there was no poor woman or child to be got and it is said that that is why the [?] is used for anointing
