    above ground they are moulded thus forming drills.
    When potatoes are sown in ridges, farmyard manure is put over the ridges after the seed has been put into them. This in turn is covered with clay got from between the ridges. This process is called "trenching". When drills are made the manure is placed in the furrows, then the "sciollains" are placed on the manure. Then the drills are split with a plough thus covering the "sciollains" and manure.
