In every locality there is some man who in the past has done some great deed for which he is famed. In this locality one man in particular has done such a deed. This man named Walter Myers is a native of Ballyran.
Apparently ten years ago he won fame by ascending the spire of the church in Solohead.
This is how it happened. One evening as he was in a nearby public house one of the steeple jacks who was repairing the spire entered and made a bet with him that he could not climb to the top of the spire. Mr. Myers took up the bet and procuring one of the rope ladders proceeded to climp. He went to the top and returned again to the ground safe and sound.(continues on next page)- Collector
