A rainbow is another sure sign of rain. The south-west wind brings the most rain.
Some birds know instinctively when rain is approaching, such as - swallows, curlews and wild geese.
The swallows fly low when we are going to get a downpour, and also the plaintive not of the curlew can be heard warning us that there is bad weather ahead.
