    We hunted this wren (ran) all day all day
    Through muddy water and yellow clay
    In Ballycrehane we broke her knee
    And brought her home on a holly tree
    This is the wren that you may see
    Well furnished on a holly tree
    A bunch of green ribbons by her side
    And the Aherlow Boys to be her guide
    I have a little box here under my arm
    And a shilling or two will do you no harm
    Up with the kettle and down with the pan
    Give us our answer and let us be gone
    When the song is finished money is generally got at each house. Often a good sum is collected and divided among the Wren boys. Sometimes the cash is spent in providing apples, oranges, cakes, sweets etc for a great feast in the afternoon, or in buying a football.
