The local people help each other in the laying of the seed. When the seed is sown the drills are closed and the ground is kept free from weeds during the growing of the crop.
During the Summer the potatoes are sprayed with bluestone and washing soda to prevent the blight from coming on them.
In October the potatoes are dug with a digger and the neighbours help each other picking them from the earth and they are stoud in pits in the garden.
There are many kinds of potatoes. Herrs Pinks. Champion. Egger[?] blues, Flounders. Golden Wanders. Skerry Champion. Garden Fillers Epicures. Nothern Star. British queens and Irish queens.
