- Once upon a time there was a man living in Foynes. He came across to mind Reeve's wood, because timber was stealing out of it. He got a dog, a gun, and a bottle of whiskey to help him to mind the wood.One night a boat came across to bring him to bury his brother who was dead in Foynes. He told them he could not go as his clothes were bad and also he had to mind the wood. So one of the men said he would give him his clothes and stay to mind the wood in his place. So Maurice went and buried his brother. The man who stayed in his place drank all the bottle of whiskey and fell asleep on the shore and the tide came in and drowned him. The following day Maurice's wife found him dead on the shore and she buried him, thinking he was her husband. The priest advised her to marry the servant boy, as she(continues on next page)
