Wicker work baskets made from osier rods were in common used in the parish 25 years ago. They are now very rare, but a few basket makers ( ____ ) still survive. Those baskets were used for drawing turf, potatoes, farmyard manure.
Scuttles, shallow wicker work ones, for straining potatoes and bringing in turf, are still to be seen but are becoming rare.
The great majority of the houses in the parish are still thatched houses. Until the recent building and reconstruction under the Housing Acts there were only about half a dozen slated house in this school district, and even now the number of slated houses does not exceed 20.
The houses are most sew-thatched i.e, the scollops (scuilb) which bind the thatch are not visible on the outside, except in the "ridging" at the top and bottom. The number of sew-thatchers is becoming very(continues on next page)
