  1. In ancient times mostly all the clothes were made from flax. When the ground was tilled in spring the seed was sown. It was pulled before it was ripe. It was put into a hole and covered with sods so as to let the outer covering rot. When it was taken up it was spread in lines in a meadow where hay was newly cut to bleach and dry.
    When it was dry it was left up until the women had time to do more work with it. When winter came it was taken down. It was put into an old basket and hung over the fire to dry.
    Boys were asked to come and break the flax. The broke it with a big stone and a turgain. It was left up again for about a week
