God to show which of them was His selection by having the gad of him who was divinely marked out go against the current.
The two gads were thrown down the current of the Fall and behold! Scribaun's gad came up against the current, thus showing that he was divinely selected as the patron of the place.
From this incident the place became known as Cluain an dá ghad - the place or meadow of the two gads. In English Clondegad.
