the national army whilst boating in the river Fergus were drowned under the bridge at Clare Castle. It appears a high tide was ebbing and they were going down stream with the tide, they were unable to steer their boat under the arch. The boat struck the wall of the bridge throwing both into the river. They were drowned.
There was a burning in this district too. Mr Callinan's old house was burned down. It was situated where Mr. Griffin N.J. now lives, nobody was injured as a result of the fire.
