- Latoon Bridge was the scene of one of the Tragedies of '98.
A prisoner was dragged at the cart's tail from the bridge to the Yeomanry Barracks at Clare Castle. He uttered neither cry nor moan, but when they stopped the cart at Clare Bridge, the bullets he had in his mouth was as flat as a sixpence. He refused to give his companions names and was hanged in the Barracks.
