- (continued from previous page)industry was carried on in the town of Ennis Soap and candles were manufactured at Connellys, Chapel Lane, where the family of Mrs Lynch is living at the present day. A tannery in Parnell Street was carried on by Mrs Moran for the making of leather. We are also told a considerable amount of nails were manufactured by Mr Long, Market St Ennis. There was a man named Mr Egan who earned his living by basket making in Parnell St. They also manufactured tubs and churns and wheels and whips from timber. And we are also told that a woman in Chapel Lane made bonnets for the womanThe nailer:-
One of the oldest trades in Ireland is that of the nailer. No one is following it now. There were six nailes in Ennis. The nailers worked in little forges. The nails are made of long iron rods cut into convenient lengths and then put into a mould, and pointed and top hammered to make a head.(continues on next page)- Collector
