“Many years ago schools were held in simple places. ...”
Many years ago schools were held in simple places. There is a ruin of an old school house in Gortaclare. A teacher used to teach in a barn. The name of the teacher was Miss O'Brien. She used to go from house to house and get small sums of money. The salary they used to get was one shilling a week per pupil. There also is another school house in Gortaclare. One of the teachers names was Mr. Burke and the other Mr. Donlannan. The scholars used to have books of their own.- Collector
