There is a story told of Caherhill about a passage where the Danes were in the habit of crossing .They discovered a barrel of gold tied with a chain which reaches from the top of the hill to the barrel of gold ,and a big bull dog looking after it.They fought hard for the barrel of gold and no one could come near it,for if they did the dog would tear them to pieces. There was a small lake where the treasure was hidden and but for the brave dog the Danes could be as rich as kings.- Collector
