- There were alot of industries carried on in the parish of Tullaroan long ago. The people made their own candles out of dry rushes and sheeps fat. When they were making candles they pulled some rushes and let them dry for a couple of days in the sun, and then they brought them in. When a sheep died they put the fat of it in a pot and left it their until it was melted into grease. When they had it melted they dipped the rushes into it until they were thick enough for a candle.
There were firkin makers in every townsland in the parish of Tullaroan(continues on next page)- Collector
