stable to see was everything right. There was a bright moon, and as he opened the stable door a white cat jumped passed him out of the stable. He said a curse in Irish and threw a stone but the cat got away and crossed a field into a graveyard and disappeared. When he was going to blacken the horse for the night's trip with the police he felt a great pain in the hand that he threw the stone at the cat with and he found that the palm turned outward and it remained ever after and so that ended his moonlight trips with the police.
