- I heard that the people died of hunger and wont along the roadside. At the time of the famine if a man got work for his supper and lodging he would be very glad and happy. About that time the emigration began. The people used to dig the whole day for a stone of potaotes. There was a hut put up on the Fair Green in Louth for a man who was evicted from his home.
