- Old Houses
The old houses in this district were built with yellow or blue clay.
Thatch was used or sedge from the bog as a roof.
The thatch was got from the oaten straw which grew on the farm.
There was a bed in the kitchen known as the settle bed. This bed was kept along the back wall near the fire place.
The front of the fire place was built with clay and sticks about a yard long. This chimney was called a basket chimney.
The windows were very small and had one pane of glass in them.
