discovered in one of the rooms.
The stone mantlepiece was inscribed with the arms of the Plunkett family.
A man named Ryan - a grand nephew of the last Chichester now owns the house & lands.
About ½ mile north of Cartown House there lives a farmer named Flynn. Old Mrs Flynn aged 90 (since dead) told me the Flynns farm was owned by Plunketts. They were the dispossessed owners of Cartown she said. They built themselves a dwelling of mud & eventually owned some land. Later this land was given to Flynns. The present dwelling is a substantially built slated farmhouse but it is old.
