- The famine affected this district very much. The district was thickly populated before the time of the famine. People can point out the ruins of houses that were occupied before the time of the famine. The blight was caused by the frost and the fog. The potatoes decayed in the fields. People eat nettles, haws, wild fruit and anything they could get. Government relief reached this district. Roads were made, rizen and lowred and castles were built. The Government supplied the seed potatoes for the following year. People died in great numbers and sickness followed the hunger. The people are not alive now that were alive during the famine.
