- A few miles from the town of Drogheda, at a seaside place called Mornington, there stands the ruins of a old tower called Maiden Tower.
The following is the story of how it got its name. A young boy and girl were engaged to be married. The boy had to go on a long voyage that last a year and a day. The lady was very sorry when she heard it, so she got a tower built, that she might be able to see the ship bearing her lover home. When the tower was built she settled with the boy, that if she was alive when the year was up she would hoist a white flag and if she was dead there would be a black one hoisted(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
