- In Meath there are many holy wells which are visited at certain times of the year. The people (are) take the water home as there is said to be a cure in it for some desase in it.
There is a holy well situated in the grounds of Slane castle. It is owned by the Marchioness Conyngham. It is called Our Lady's Well and it is visited by the people on the 15th of August each year. People used to go there at midnight.
On one occasion the gates would not be left open for the public to visit the well. During the night the well overflowed and flooded the grounds, Ever since the gates are left open. Crowds visit the well during the day, and at (thress) three oclock in the afternoon the Rosary is recited by one of the priests of parish.- Collector
