    Estate from Cromwell when the land was being divided.
    Lord Kelly the land-lord for Painstown was said to have been a bad man for he evicted a family named Lawless who resided in Ballinlough, and who afterwards had to emigrate to America. He did not plant any other tenants on the land for the house fell afterwards.
    Farms were never subdivided among members of families on marriage.
