- When St. Joseph, The Blessed Virgin and the Child Jesus were fleeing into Egypt, they heard that Herod's soldiers were on their track. They stood in the shelter of a tree and the spiders came and wove a web in front of them. The soldiers passed by without noticing them and so the Holy Family were saved.
Since then the spider is befriended by the people. The local people believe that if you kill a spider you will break a plate or a cup the same day.- Collector
