    The other hotel was taken by The Ward Union Hunt Club and the hunting here was second to none in Ireland. The Empress of Austria came over every year and hunted regularly over this country. She was a very beautiful woman, for there is a large painting of her still in "The Kennels".
    About the year 1847 many farmers were evicted from their holdings and their land added to existing ranches or otherwise utilized to feed bullocks.
    Thomas Ashe with a handful of volunteers engaged a strong force of R.I.C. at the Cross of the Rath in 1916 and many of the latter were killed.
