  1. The late Mary Rooney of Cabin-hill, Ratoath, Co. Meath lived in a mud wall cabin with clay floors. Here and there in the floor were holes from which she fed the hens and the cats.
    The fire was on a flat griddle on the floor against the gable wall. There were no windows in the house. There were no rooms in the house but out from the wall of the cabin was a little nook just the shape of her bed. Only the ruins of the house remains.
