  1. The Local Forge
    3-5-38
The Blacks of Garadice had a forge at the Cross Roads of Garadice for long over a hundred years. Their real name was Blackburn and they were descended from a Scottish soldier who was fighting here in the English army. He married an Irish girl from the Moye, Summerhill. They had nine sons.
The blacksmiths used to make ploughs, spades, shovels, forks and a lot of other useful tools. He used to get a lot of custom. The tools he made were rather heavy and awkward.
Story heard form the last of these blacksmiths: John Black, 82, Garadice, Kilcock, Meath.
