    One time there was a story-teller named Larry Smith.

    Down, Co. Meath. He worked in Killyon Manor. In the evening's when he used to be going home the young lads used to meet him to make him tell them. He used to let on that he had something under his coat to frighten them but they would put their hands inside his coat and they would find nothing. This evening he caught an owl and put it under his coat. When he came up the road he said to them "Well I have something this evening". Matt Malone put his hand in under his coat and as soon as he did the own caught his finger and kept it in his mouth for five minutes. Matt started to bawl but to pacify him Larry told the story of "Jack and the fairies".
