    cake with a knife and then it would be put on a griddle or into an oven.
    Some people knock at the cake and they know by the sound of it whether it is done or not. The sound is very hollow when it is done.
    Nowadays, bread is made with wheaten meal and flour mixed, or sometimes with wheaten meal or sometimes with flour only.
    Potato cakes are also made. They are made by boiled potatoes chopped up fine in flour with buttermilk and a pinch of salt and mixed up together.
    A cake of it is cut up into eight equal parts. This bread is still used occasionally here.
    Boxty Bread is much the same as potato cakes.
