McGann in Athboy was a Hatter by trade. Connor Bracken a grand uncle of Jack Bracken, Ballivor, was a hatter. He lived where Loughlens live now in Kil - Ballivor, about a hundred years ago.
The shed in which he made the hats is used there still. - There is an old forge in Baskinagh: belonging to George Hesnan Baskinagh, Athboy, Co Meath. He is about a year dead and he was seventy seven when he died.
The forge is situated on the roadside. He used to shoe wheels in a field near by. There are two big stones with a big hole in each for the stalk of the wheel. His father before him worked in the same forge and is about forty years dead. There was no work done in the forge for the past fourteen years.(continues on next page)
