- There was an old man living in Athboy about fifty years ago. One night he went to a bridge in Westmeath called Stoneyford-Bridge. he got a crack of a whip across the legs from the fairies. He ran to his heels and flew for his life. There were two more men in that parish that had humps on their backs.
One night one of them faced out for the town. The night was very dark when they were crossing the bridge. The fairies were on the bridge having a concert and as he was passing he said "Great fun boys; Great fun". One of the fairies shouted "We'll burn him", and another fairy said "No we'll kill him" and another fairy said "We'll beat(continues on next page)- Collector
