When a stranger would come in he would often fall, because he would not know the house.Half doors were very common formerly more so than now although there are some yet.People would have rushes for candles.An old woman living round here would collect rushes and peel them. Then she would go round with a basket full and sell them at the rate of eight a penny.It was up to the people to steep the rushes in fat for candles.
