There was one of these schools in my parish of Girley near where the present Catholic Church now stands. The name of the schoolmaster that taught the children in my parish was Mr. Brady. The children were taught Irish, Latin, Greek, and many other subjects. While the lessons were been taught one boy had to watch for fear the English soldiers would come. The people who could afford it would approach the master and that is how he got paid.
