- There are a great many wild birds in this district, for example, the crane, the stork, the sea-gull, the plover, crows, the pigeon, the hawk, the maypies, the wren, the thrush, the black-bird, the pheasant, the robin, the sparrow and the willy-wag-tail. The crane is a big heavy bird and it very helpless. When the crows see it they start picking it and chasing it. The stork is a big bird with long legs. The plover is a lovly bird with a point on the top of its head.
- There were a lot of wild birds in Ireland long ago. There are only a few there now, for example, usually the swan, the pheasant, the wild goose, the wild duck, the water-hen and others. The swan usually builds her nest in the willows and sedge that grows in the water. She depends on a special weed for food called swan weed.
