    I had one Protestant and 33 Catholic pupils. Eleven years later there were two schools one in Dulane and another in Loughan. In 1844 there was a school kept by Owen Smith in a small cabin at Loughan. It had 45 pupils. A school kept by Philip Farrelly in a cabin at Loughan. I had 22 pupils.
    Things were a little better in Mullaghea where a school of mud and thatch had been erected by public subscription. In 1838 a school at Woodpole was established 5th May. This school was purchased for the parish by Fr. Kelly and renovated at the cost of £1000.
    In 1844 Fr. Sheridan made application to have the National System of education introduced to his parish. His applications stated that the existing school at Carnaross was erected in 1825. I was built on Chaple ground it was constructed of stone
