- In olden times people did not wear boots till they were quite grown up. There is one man that lived in the townland of Graughadushen named Thomas Mc Elwaine who never wore boots. His mother, when she was on her deathbed, said she would die contented if he would wear boots. He went down the stairs crying, but he never wore boots.
Another man named Daly, Lislin, Mullagh, Co Cavan. never wore boots. He lived all his life with his sister. One Sunday his sister killed a rooster for their dinner. She left her brother house-keeping while she went to Mass. He lifted the lid off the pot and saw the rooster's mouth open. He ran all the way to the chapel and shouted at his sister "Come home Rose, or the rooster will have all the soup drunk."
